Lech Śliwonik once again the Dean of the Theatrical Academy in Warsaw

Prof. Lech Śliwonik, the specialist in Theater and Dean of the Theatrical Academy between 2002-05 was elected to serve another three years yeasterday (the 10th of April).

"I am not an actor, nor a director, there is less artistic spontaneity in me and more of a sense of responsibility, an organizational prowess. During my tenure, we managed to bring the Academy out of debt, I will continue to seek to maintain order," said Prof. Lech Śliwonik. The Dean of the Theater Academy between 2002 and 2005 was elected to serve another three terms. Earlier, he was the Head of the Department of Theatrical Epistemology in the Academy.

His only opponent was Prof. Aleksandra Górska, Assistant Dean of the Academy. She recieved 25 votes, Lech Śliwonik won with 45.

Yesterday Lech Śliwonik spoke of the problems facing the Theatrical Academy. "The Academy is threatened by new laws in accordance with which professors above the age of 70 must retire. It was not easy for me to do, but I had to let go of some truly outstanding artists, amongst others, Zapasiewicz, Holoubka, Lapicki," he said.

The Dean also noted that students who do not graduate the Academy are problematic. "We are meant to educate an elite, but the students want to work as quickly as they can, by the third year they are already trying out for roles, acting in television serials, and simply not finishing their diplomas." He has an idea for dealing with the problem: "Without completing at least the first part of their degree, students will be not be allowed to continue on to the fourth year"
