The Media on the Pope's Burial

All national television broadcasting stations and four Polish radio stations will broadcast the funeral of Pope John Paul II.

"TVP will begin broadcasting the Pope's funeral around 9:45 am. The same program will be shown on all Polish television stations. Upon concluding the transmission, there will be a two-part film, "John Paul II," after which a concert from Krakow's 'Bloni' will be shown.

TVN and all television stations belonging to the ITI Media Group will show the funeral procession and all associated events until 7:45 pm. In the evening, TVN and TVN7 will return to regular broadcasting, showing two movies.

Between the hours of 9 and 9:30am, Polsat television and its affiliates, along with TV4, will broadcast news from Rome; between 10 am and 1 pm, they will show the funeral.

Music stations, such as MTV Poland and VIVA Poland will broadcast irenic music, while on Friday, they will cease broadcasting altogether.

All four of Poland's national radio stations will transmit the funeral procession. Commercials will resume on Monday, the 11th of April.

On Radio Zet, between 7 and 9 am, Monika Olejnik will be talking with her studio guests; there will be no music. From 10 am, Father Witold Bock of Gdansk will run the show abreast Marzena Chełminiak; they will relate events in Rome as they unfold. On RMF FM, on Friday, fragments of the funeral will be conjoined with commentary and news from different regions of Poland. On Friday, only limited regular news programming will be broadcast, some of which will be altered in view of current circumstances.

"Rzeczpospolita" will print 200,000 copies of a special edition regarding the funeral. The paper will be distributed to the faithful free of charge. On Sunday, the paper will be available for purchase in kiosks, its' content will also be dedicated to the subject of the pope.

"Gazeta Wyborcza" will also print a special edition, with no additions. It will be distributed throgh a variety of sources available on that day. On Saturday, the regular edition of "Gazeta Wyborcza" will return, with additions and with television listings, moved from Friday.

Friday will also see the publication of "Super Ekspress." The paper will be distributed through available sources; it will not be sold by newspaper salesmen. On Saturday, the paper's weekend edition will be available in kiosks.

"Fakt" will publish a 'Thursday-Friday' edition containing television listings. For Friday, the paper will prepare a 12 page special edition, available in the morning and afternoon in kiosks which happen to be open.

On the day of John Paul II's funeral, "Nasz Dziennik" and "Trybuna" will not come out.
